Susan Magnano | Adventures with Light Painting

Author: The Printique Team

Meet Susan Magnano, photographer, explorer and educator. One look at her work and you’ll realize she captures the earth’s magic with her lens. Susan’s whimsical painting with light is what put her on the map. She teaches photographers to play with light and create one-of-a-kind portraits with the environment. It’s an adventure with camera in hand. Her images are colorful, whimsical and above all.. stunning.

She has a passion for the outdoors and brings that excitement to her students.

“Once the sun sets, I spring into action teaching my favorite subject, light painting and shooting the stars till the wee hours of the morning. What I love most about photography is the ability to capture a moment, tell a story, and evoke a feeling and by teaching photography I love that they are able to create their vision and share their own story.”

Susan is one of several women we are showcasing at our 19th Street Gallery. It’s Printique’s small gallery that has blossomed into a work of art by presenting dynamic photographers and their work For Susan, we designed a 10×12.5 Hardcover Lay Flat Photo Book . It’s titled Luminescent Portraits. The photo book displays the vibrance of the night with her surreal light painting. Through the book, she takes us on a journey.

The lay flat photo book is printed using a traditional silver halide technique. Her images are actually infused into the archival photo paper, giving them greater vibrancy and sharpness. The photo books are also handcrafted in Brooklyn, New York by Artisans and the software offers modern designs and typography.

She also is displaying two large 30×40 Metal Prints. Her images were infused into High Definition Chromaluxe Metal resulting in a vibrant statement piece. You can see them up close and personal at the 19th Street Gallery through June 20th.

When Susan packs her bag for her night time photography, you’ll see her grab the OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II Mirrorless Camera along with her favorite lenses the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f/2.8 and the OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8. These are the tools that help her create her one-of-a-kind night time imagery.

Of course, you can’t do night photography and get these kind of results unless you have a rockstar of a tripod. Susan uses the Benro CyanBird 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod with FS20PRO 3-Way 2 in 1 Pan/Tilt Head. It allows her to know that her gear is safe and steady while she is creating.

If you would like to see more of Susan’s work, you can check it out at Printique’s 19th Street Gallery. The WE CREATE exhibit runs through June 20th. You can find more information on the gallery HERE.
