Photographing the Solar Eclipse with Jennifer Khordi

Author: Collaborator - Printique by Adorama

Hi, everyone. Jennifer Khordi here, brand ambassador for Adoramapix. I am very excited to announce that I will be sharing the details of my upcoming journey to photograph the upcoming eclipse from a small town near Nashville, Tennessee. I will be describing how I am preparing for the eclipse as well as sharing Instagram stories on the journey down as well as I will be doing stories during the actual shoot. The eclipse will last in totality where I will be shooting for a duration of 2 minutes and 22 seconds. You will be able to join me live during the eclipse by following Printique on Instagram. Click HERE to follow. (Please note, if you plan to watch it on your PC, you’ll need to install this google chrome extension first to bring up IG stories. Click HERE for the extension. The last partial eclipse I was able to shoot occurred in the NYC area on November 3, 2013. I have been looking forward to shooting it again for the last several years.

What gear am I preparing for the eclipse?

I will be shooting the eclipse with my Nikon d500, Sigma Sport 150-600 lens, 2x sigma extender, and I will be going with two solar filters that are the proper size for my lens:

1) A “Helios Film spotting filter from Seymour Solar“. This filter shows the sun as red/yellow instead of white.

2) Proper eclipse viewing glasses.
When do I need to wear my glasses and filter?
You need a proper solar filter and eclipse glasses to view the eclipse otherwise you will burn your camera sensor and permanently damage your eyes. An ND filter is not strong enough. If you haven’t bought a solar filter yet you can also get welder’s glass. You DO not need a solar filter to view the sun during totality.
So here is a look at my total setup. I’ll also be using my trusty magnesium Gitzo tripod that is heavy enough for my lens.

What will be my settings?

I will be sharing my settings during the eclipse via stories when I do an Instagram takeover for Adoramapix.
