Every person has a story to tell of how they capture the magic they see before them with their photography. We are celebrating this with our Instagram PixStorytellers. Each week, a new photographer will join us on Instagram sharing their ideas, tips, and tricks for getting the best shot. This week we introduce you to Spencer Lee also know as spencerlee808 on Instagram who specializes in landscape and adventure photography.
I started photography by shooting my high school sports teams. During football games, there would always be an epic sunset. So I took the time before school to go shoot the sunrise. I instantly fell in love with landscape photography and have continued to work on my passion ever since.
I shoot regular landscapes with a Sony a6500 with the 18-105mm f4 lens. But I also have the 10-18mm f4, 35mm f1.8, and the 50mm f1.8 all for Sony E-mount.
For tripods, I use the MeFoto Classic with A Joby Gorilla Pod head so I can quickly switch the camera to the Gorilla Pod
For aerials, I use the DJI Mavic Pro
For underwater shots, I use a GoPro Hero 6 and a GoPro Hero 3+ with A Telesin Dome for the over-under shots
The pursuit of the perfect image can brainwash our ability to appreciate things that are equally important. For example, we can get frustrated when the weather conditions are unfavorable when instead we can focus on the feelings of accomplishment that come with waking up at 4 am and scaling that mountain for the first time. However, there are things I love about photography like shooting at new locations. It’s important to me that I don’t look at pictures of the new locations ahead of time to allow my creativity as much freedom as possible. I think that it’s just as important to shoot the same locations multiple times to find the best composition or wait for the best light.
This might sound like many other creators, but I really want to learn as much as I can about every aspect of photography. From different styles, (run and gun vs single frame shooters) to the ins and outs of both landscape and portrait photography.
I also would like to discover something brand new (like a viral camera technique or something) that changes some aspect of photography. I definitely would say I’m constantly inspired by my fellow creators. It really is exciting to see how differently two people will capture a scene. Music also inspires me as it elicits emotions that I try to capture in an image.
