You may recognize Madeline from our recent social content this summer. She is a Memphis-based wedding photographer who decided to join us in the heat of Manhattan to shoot weddings, explore the city, and make unforgettable memories. Before saying goodbye to summer (and Madeline), we met with her on a cool, rainy day in the city to sift through her album of summer memories in her Leather Photo Album.
Designing Her Book with Expert Detail and a Collage of Photos Madeline’s photos are a cross between a story of her summer and an aesthetic mood board, with a different feel on every page. She takes us page by page, showing us summer through her eyes. Madeline’s book not only shows how images can tell a story, but also how a photo album can be expertly curated with an artist’s eye.
More Than Just Photos: Documenting Life with a Friend’s Eye For Madeline, photography is more than just capturing images; it’s about giving people their memories. Her approach to documenting weddings and individuals in their passionate pursuits is akin to a friend with a camera—authentic, uncurated, and deeply personal. What sets Madeline apart is her unwavering commitment to being herself. She doesn’t chase trends or adhere to rigid industry “rules.” Instead, she trusts her intuition and prioritizes what feels right for herself and her clients. This genuine approach resonates deeply, creating images that are both timeless and deeply personal.
A Recent Memory in Print When asked about a recent favorite printed memory from the book, she immediately turned to a gray and blue collage flat lay.
“There are so many good ones, but when flipping through these pages to show anyone, I find myself telling the story of my mom, grandmother, and I making raspberry jam. I often don’t bring my camera when traveling just for pleasure, but whenever I do, I’m always so glad I did. My grandmother lives in Knoxville, TN, and her mountain home is surrounded by raspberry bushes my papaw planted before he passed. Whenever we visit in the summer, we come home with all sorts of homemade raspberry treats.”
On the Curation and Formatting of the Book When Gigi from Printique asked me to make a whole photo book, I immediately compiled all my favorite adventure photos and was going to make either a warm-toned or cool-toned book. But while trying to narrow down a decade of life, I noticed there were so many more feelings than just those two. I often curate my journals by color and feeling, so I decided to do the same for this. I thought the colors would be a nice way to evoke the feeling even more while also providing a clean way to add a short description.
The Importance of Material Choice When selecting materials for printing her photographs, Madeline considers several crucial factors. The overall aesthetic of the image plays a significant role—whether it calls for the rich depth of a metal print, the classic elegance of a framed luster print, or the vibrant clarity of acrylic. Archival quality is also paramount, ensuring that the printed memories will last for generations. Finally, the client’s vision is always at the forefront, ensuring the final print perfectly reflects their style and preferences.
A Brief Testimonial on the Quality of the Album “I have always wanted to turn my work into postcards or a book, but the thought has always been daunting—where would I even start? I wanted something that would be high quality but also feel extremely personal and custom, and my Printique book is all that and more. I was able to make the cover feel warm and welcoming, and I adore the matte pages. It’s the perfect coffee table book and a great way to reminisce whenever friends come over.”
