Every Dad is unique and special. This Father’s Day we are shining the spotlight on one particular community member whose journey from the stage to the lens is a testament to the transformative power of passion and creativity. This is Pervez Taufiq and his family who are with him every step of the way.
My name is Pervez Taufiq, and I’m of Indian descent. My father and mother moved to America in 1970. As a child, I was drawn to both computers and art, and soon became a computer engineer at a young age. Simultaneously, I also sang in a hard rock band that was signed to Atlantic Records and we toured heavily to support our two released albums. I met my wife in 2009, and we were married a few years later. She came from a modeling background and was a well-known model in India having graced the covers of Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, and many others. We were living in Boston, and I had given up my music career and she gave up her modeling career to pursue a more stable family life as our first of three sons was born in 2013.
I was asked to shoot my first wedding as a favor to a friend who was getting married. I had always loved photography and had photographed other bands while I was touring with Ozzy Osbourne and Korn. I knew a fair amount about lighting from stage shows and knew the difference between good lighting and bad lighting. After my first wedding, I kept shooting small weddings here and there for fun, and then I shot my first Indian wedding in 2019, and I was hooked. My wife convinced me to leave my safe day job and start my wedding business in Nov of 2019, not knowing that the pandemic loomed ahead.
During the pandemic, I found myself shooting 45 weddings and found a way to make the backyard and living room weddings interesting for myself. I convinced brides and grooms to let me take them to destination pre-shoots all over the world as a part of their package, and suddenly I had built a respectable portfolio of images that were taking Instagram by storm. Suddenly in 2020, I was 145 weddings and found myself having to scale dramatically. My wife Nicole had joined me in the business and became an incredible shooter as well, so we found ourselves traveling all over the world without kiddos shooting crazy luxury weddings.
We were so busy that our team was doing over 170 weddings a year, and Nicole and I were shooting 40-50 between the two of us. We were doing weddings that most only dream of, 30-million-dollar weddings in Paris that would make Jeff Bezos blush. Brides and Grooms were hiring us before they even booked their venue, before they knew where to get married, they would ask us, “Where would be an amazing spot for us to get married?”. It was insane, and we still pinch ourselves at the honor that is for us to receive.
We travel to over 15+ countries in the year and its truly an out of body experience to see some of the places we get to go to. Recently we have also taken on doing education at various conferences around the world, and teaching planners, decorators and other photographers how to grow their businesses and scale. During the pandemic we learned so much about how to grow and adapt quickly that we found there is a recipe for dramatic success but you have to be willing to have a lot of sleepless nights.
Nicole and I both knew early on that we could not be away from the kids for weeks or months at a time. In the pandemic, we opted out of school and home-schooled instead, traveling and shooting throughout Asia. The lifestyle fit, and we thoroughly enjoyed being able to share every new and familiar place with the kids. We became a nomadic tribe, learning as we go and experiencing everything this life has to offer. Our oldest 11-year-old boy has picked up the camera and is shooting his first paid destination wedding at my side this year. It’s truly amazing.
We shot almost 300 weddings last year as a company and have expanded to Mexico, Paris, and India. We have a book coming out later this year, as well as masterclasses and some Mobile apps that will revolutionize the photography industry. We are still growing as artists and learning all the time, and we have plans to continue expanding and evolving. There are also some amazing surprises this year which I cannot share just yet, but you’ll have to stay tuned. It’s gonna be a whirlwind.
Thank you Pervez for your time and inspiration. We surprised Pervez with his own family album for father’s day. We chose a 10×12.4 metal cover album. When opened, you are looking at vibrant images that span 25″ across the spread with no gutter.
Each of their family destinations in the album has its’ own place, from the beauty of the blue sea surrounding Athens to the bright red telephone booths of London. This album depicts an amazing, vibrant family that is embracing life.. and embracing their memories. Thanks for sharing with us Pervez.
